PETR

KRYŠTŮFEK

„Petr Kryštůfek is, in his paintings, a melancholic soul and a storyteller of lived experiences. A hallmark of his work is the use of color fields applied with a palette knife in layered transparencies, without rendering fine details. From these abstract segments, figurative motifs emerge, becoming the dominant element of the composition. His graphic works follow a similar approach—though even more simplified in drawing, they still carry powerful narratives. His affinity for visual geometry was shaped by the influence of constructivists Vladislav Mirvald and Zdeněk Sýkora, whose studios he frequented during his studies. As he puts it himself, he is something of a recycled teenager, leaving traces of his own existential fragmentation on the canvas. Through his painterly technique, he invites the viewer to interpret freely—and never fails to captivate…“

Jiří Žák, from the exhibition’s opening remarks

The artist currently lives in Prague’s Karlín district. His works are represented in private collections as well as in public spaces.
